Johnson Township Farmers’ Market is a seasonal entity founded in 2007 thanks to a partnership developed between the vendors and the Township. Vendors invited to participate are located in the geographical area encompassing Iron Bridge to Echo Bay. The Market provides an opportunity to local farmers, bakers, artisans and craftsmen to sell their products.
Located in Desbarats next to the Community Centre, it operates from June until Thanksgiving. A timber framed pavilion was erected in 2009 as a permanent home for the market. Presently, the vendors offer a wide variety of local products including vegetables, preserves, honey and honey products, delicious baked goods, a selection of alpaca yarns, rovings and other products, maple syrup and maple products and boxed frozen beef. Rounding out the shopping experience is a selection of Northern Ontario cheese, locally roasted coffee, cuts of locally grown beef, lamb and pork, wooden furniture, iron works and crafts. In addition, one vendor is certified organic.
The collective is administered by a Market Manager on behalf of an administrative committee.
